Setting Up Relay Point Selection

This guide explains how to enable customers to select relay points from available carriers during the Shopify checkout process.

Overview

The Wing app allows customers to choose relay points (pickup locations) from multiple carriers. This feature appears on your checkout page after payment, allowing customers to select their preferred pickup location.

Prerequisites

  • Wing app installed and connected to your Shopify store
  • Order synchronization configured
  • Shopify store upgraded to Checkout Extensibility (Shopify Plus or compatible plans)
  • Relay point carriers enabled in Wing settings

Step 1: Select Relay Point Carriers

First, specify which carriers should display relay point options.

Configure in Wing

  1. Go to https://my.wing.eu/settings/integrations
  2. Find your Shopify store
  3. Click the settings icon (gear) next to your store name
  4. In the Relay Point Carriers section, select which carriers to enable:
    • Colissimo - La Poste Colissimo relay points
    • Chronopost - Chronopost relay points
    • Mondial Relay - Mondial Relay network
    • Atlas Pickup Point - Atlas Pickup network
  5. Save your settings

Map Shipping Methods

Ensure the shipping methods that offer relay points are mapped to the selected carriers:

Step 2: Enable Checkout Extensibility

Checkout Extensibility is a Shopify feature that allows apps to customize the checkout experience. It's required to display the relay point selection widget.

Verify Checkout Extensibility Status

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin at https://admin.shopify.com/store/{yourstore}
  2. Navigate to Settings > Payments
  3. Look for the Checkout Extensibility section
  4. Verify the upgrade is complete

If you haven't upgraded yet, Shopify will display an upgrade banner. Follow the prompts to enable Checkout Extensibility.

Step 3: Add Relay Point Selection to Checkout Pages

The relay point widget can be added to two checkout pages:

Option A: Order Confirmation Page

This allows customers to select relay points immediately after placing an order.

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Payments
  2. Click Customize checkout pages
  3. Select the Thank You tab
  4. In the page section, select Order Details
  5. Click Add app block
  6. Find and select "Wing Pickup point select"
  7. Click Add
  8. Save your changes

Option B: Order Status Page

This displays relay point selection when customers check their order status.

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Payments
  2. Click Customize checkout pages
  3. Select the Order Status tab
  4. In the page section, select Order Details
  5. Click Add app block
  6. Find and select "Wing Pickup point select"
  7. Click Add
  8. Save your changes

For optimal user experience, add the widget to both pages:

  • Thank You page: Immediate selection after purchase
  • Order Status page: Customers can change selection later

Supported Carriers and Locations

Available Carriers

Once enabled, customers will see relay point options for:

  • Colissimo - La Poste network (France)
  • Chronopost - Chronopost locations (France)
  • Mondial Relay - Mondial Relay points (France, Europe)
  • Atlas Pickup Point - Atlas network (multiple regions)

Relay Point Selection Behavior

  • Before Payment: Relay point selection is NOT available before checkout (by Shopify design)
  • After Payment: Customers can select their preferred relay point
  • Auto-Selection: If no relay point is selected, Wing automatically assigns the nearest relay point to the shipping address
  • Multiple Carriers: If enabled, customers see and can choose from all available relay points

Testing Relay Point Selection

Create a Test Order

  1. Place a test order with a relay point shipping method
  2. Complete checkout payment
  3. You should see the Wing relay point selection widget
  4. Select a relay point
  5. Verify the selection appears in Wing dashboard

Verify in Wing

  1. Go to https://my.wing.eu/orders
  2. Find your test order
  3. Confirm the selected relay point appears in the order details
  4. Check that the carrier matches your expectations

Alternative Solutions

If you prefer not to use Wing's native relay point selection, the app also supports integration with these carrier-specific apps:

  • Colissimo App - Official La Poste Colissimo app
  • Chronopost App - Official Chronopost app
  • Mondial Relay App - Official Mondial Relay app
  • Atlas Pickup Point App - Atlas app

You can install these apps alongside Wing and disable Wing's relay point selection in your settings.

Troubleshooting

Relay Point Widget Not Appearing

Checklist:

  • Checkout Extensibility is enabled in Shopify Settings
  • Widget is added to correct checkout page (Thank You or Order Status)
  • Relay point carriers are enabled in Wing settings
  • Shipping method is mapped to a relay point carrier
  • Your Shopify plan supports Checkout Extensibility
  • Clear browser cache and reload

Customers Can't Select Relay Points

  • Verify the order has a relay point shipping method assigned
  • Check that the carrier is enabled in Wing settings
  • Confirm checkout extension is visible on the page

Missing or Incorrect Relay Points

  • Verify the customer's shipping address is complete and valid
  • Check that the carrier serves that geographic area
  • Relay points are pulled from the carrier's current network
